What a certified Yelp partner is, and what it changes for your account.

Circulation Studio is a Yelp Advertising Partner and a Certified Yelp Agency Expert. That status is granted by Yelp, it has requirements, and it gives an agency tools and access no self-serve advertiser has. This page explains what the program is, what it gets you, and what it costs, including the part most agencies leave out.

Yelp Certified Advertising Partner

Certified by Yelp, not self-declared

What is a Yelp Advertising Partner?

A Yelp Advertising Partner is an agency Yelp has certified to buy and manage Yelp advertising for clients. Partners complete Yelp's training, pass its compliance standards, and get access to partner tools, dedicated support, and client promotions that are not available to self-serve advertisers. Certification is granted by Yelp and reviewed on an ongoing basis.

What the program requires

  • Complete Yelp's partner training course
  • Demonstrate a standard of client service Yelp is willing to put its name on
  • Meet Yelp's compliance guidelines on reviews and platform usage
  • Pass Yelp's periodic compliance checks to keep the status

In plain terms

Why the program exists at all

Yelp worked out something most platforms take years to admit: a salesperson who meets a business once cannot serve it as well as an agency that already works with it every week.

A Yelp sales representative is handling a long list of accounts, is measured on new spend, and meets your business at the moment of the pitch. An agency that already runs the website, the listings and the reviews knows what a job is worth to you, which services are worth promoting this season, and what the phone is doing. Yelp cannot know any of that. The agency already does.

So rather than growing a bigger sales and account resolution team, Yelp built a program that hands campaign management, budget decisions and support to agencies who hold those relationships already, and pays them out of its own margin to do it well. That is the bet: an account looked after by someone with the full picture spends more sensibly, performs better, and stays on the platform longer than one sold in a phone call.

The business gets

Someone who knows the account making the call, and no cold pitch to evaluate alone.

The agency gets

Tools, support and a rebate, so it is paid to keep the campaign working rather than to sell it once.

Yelp gets

Advertisers who stay, because the campaigns produce work instead of being cancelled in month three.

What partners get from Yelp

Source: Yelp partner program

  1. Partner sales consulting Co-selling with Yelp's own team, client insights, and account audits run against Yelp's data rather than guesswork.
  2. Partner Hub One dashboard holding tasks and client data across every account we manage, instead of a login per business.
  3. Partner APIs and integrations Campaign and listing management at scale, and lead notifications delivered straight into a CRM.
  4. Partner incentives Rebates paid to the agency, plus promotions and ad credits that can only be applied to a partner-managed account.

What that means for the client

The same four things, stated as what changes on your side of the account.

Who you talk to
Whoever picks up at Yelp support, starting the story over each time.
One point of contact who already knows the account, the market and the history.
Sales calls
Yelp's sales team calls you directly, often while a campaign is mid-flight.
Calls route to us. You hear about a change when there is a reason to make one.
Promotions and credits
Whatever is offered on the self-serve dashboard that month.
Partner-exclusive client promotions and ad credits, applied to your spend.
What you can see
The Yelp dashboard: impressions, clicks and a lead count, with no way to tell a real job from a wrong number.
A tracking dashboard we run on top of it: call tracking, advanced keyword reports showing which searches produced the call, and leads matched back to booked work.
Who is looking at your account
You are, when you remember to log in. Nobody at Yelp is watching a single advertiser's performance.
We monitor it between reports, and we hold standing calls with our Yelp agency rep to go through performance account by account. Problems get raised there before they show up in a month of wasted spend.
Duplicate and stray listings
Old addresses, closed locations and duplicate pages keep collecting reviews and calls you never see.
We find duplicates and stray listings, then merge or close them through Yelp so the reviews and the traffic land on the page you are paying to promote.
When something breaks
A support ticket in the same queue as every other advertiser.
A named escalation path into Yelp, used by us on your behalf.

The reason most clients call us

Make the Yelp sales calls stop.

Once your account sits under our partner ID, Yelp's sales team goes through us. No more quota calls at four on a Friday, no more upsell pitched to whoever answers the phone at your front desk, no more budget changes agreed to by someone who does not run the campaign.

Route my Yelp calls to you

Takes one form and one signature

How it happens

  1. You grant us partner access to the account you already own.
  2. Yelp flags the account as partner-managed and reassigns the contact.
  3. Sales calls come to us. You hear from us when a change is worth making.

Who you get at Yelp

Yelp built the partner program because accounts run by an agency that already supports the client perform better and stay longer. So partners are not handed to the sales floor. We sit between you and Yelp, and the person we deal with there has a different job than the person who would call you.

You

The service business

Owns the account, the invoice and the decision.

Circulation Studio

Certified partner

Takes the calls, argues the case, and gets paid whether or not you spend more.

Yelp

The partner team

Supports partners so partner-run accounts keep working. Not a sales queue.

If you go direct

A Yelp sales representative

  • Often two or three years into the role, and the role turns over.
  • Compensated on new spend, so the recommendation is usually more spend.
  • Measured on the quarter, not on whether the campaign still works in a year.
  • Talks to you, the business owner, between jobs.

If you go through us

Our Yelp agency representative

  • Fifteen years at Yelp, working at the level where exceptions actually get made.
  • Paid to keep partner accounts performing, not to upsell a single advertiser.
  • Standing calls with us, account by account, where problems get raised early.
  • Talks to us, and we translate it into what it means for your money.

Plainly stated

Does working with a Yelp Partner cost more?

Three facts, stated separately, because they pull in different directions and every one of them is true. Two of them are in your favour. The third is what we charge, and it belongs on the page next to the other two rather than in a footnote.

Fact one

Yelp pays certified partners a rebate on the ad spend they manage

It is based on client spend under management and it comes out of Yelp's side, not out of your budget. You should know it exists before you hire anyone, and any partner who will not answer that question directly is the wrong partner.

Fact two

Partner clients get pricing self-serve advertisers cannot reach

Bundled pricing, free upgrades and ad credits are available through partners and not on the self-serve dashboard. New advertisers frequently qualify for a matched-spend window running about six months, which on accounts we have opened has been worth more than a thousand dollars of placement. It is available once.

Fact three

Circulation Studio charges a fee on top of ad spend

Our fee is separate from what you pay Yelp, and it is published below rather than quoted on a call. It is a one-time setup and optimization fee to start, and ongoing ad management carries no monthly fee. Review management is the one recurring item, and only if you want it.

We read the account before we quote it: category, market, review position and what a job is worth to you. If the numbers do not support it, we say so and stop there. An account that cannot succeed is worth nothing to us either, and it costs us more to manage a losing campaign than to decline it.

What we do on a managed account

Listings and profile management

Hours, categories, service areas and photos kept accurate, plus duplicate and stray listings merged or closed so one page carries the reviews.

Competitor ad removal

Rival ads cleared off your profile so a visitor who found you does not leave with someone else.

Custom offer and call to action

The offer and the button matched to how your clients actually decide, then tested.

Keyword and targeting strategy

Spend pointed at the jobs you want and away from the ones that waste a truck roll.

Review response strategy

A response voice that protects the business, stays inside Yelp's guidelines and still sounds human.

Advanced tracking and reporting

Calls, leads and booked jobs tied back to spend, reported monthly with what we would change next.

What we charge

Setup and optimization

$500 One time1

  1. Priced per location. Multi-location businesses are quoted from the second location down.
  2. Requires a minimum Yelp ad spend, quoted for your market. Ad spend is billed by Yelp directly to you, never through us, so you keep the account and the invoice. We are paid a rebate by Yelp on that spend, which is disclosed here rather than left off the page.
  3. Billed monthly, cancellable monthly, and not required to run ads with us. Does not guarantee removal of legitimate negative reviews.
Should I hire an agency or manage Yelp Ads myself?

Manage it yourself if your budget is small and you have time to watch it weekly. Below roughly a thousand dollars a month in ad spend, the one-time setup and optimization fee is hard to justify, the account will not qualify for the best partner incentives, and there is not enough click volume to tell what is working from what is noise. Above that, or if nobody on staff will open the dashboard, a certified partner adds credits, support, and tuning you cannot get on your own.

What do agencies charge to manage Yelp Ads?

Most charge either a flat monthly fee or a percentage of ad spend, commonly 10 to 20 percent. We charge neither. There is a one-time setup and optimization fee, which is real money and the point at which most of the work happens, and after that we are paid by Yelp's rebate on managed spend. Some work sits outside that: review management, API and CRM connections, and creative production like graphics or video are quoted separately. Ask any agency whether they take the rebate as well as a management fee. Most partners do.

Do Yelp Ads require a contract?

Yelp Ads do not require a contract, and on a self-serve account you can turn them on or off at any point in the month with a pro-rated bill.

Managed accounts work differently. We bill centrally, which is how the partner pricing and credits are applied in the first place, so we pay Yelp and you pay us. That means changes are not instant the way clicking a toggle is. It also means pausing mid-month, or mid-promotion, can cost you a promotional rate you were partway through earning. Tell us before you want something off and we will handle the timing.

Our management agreement runs on a three-month commitment.

How does billing work with a certified partner?

Two ways. Centralized, which is the default, means we are billed by Yelp for the ad spend across every account we manage and you are billed by us. Decentralized means you pay Yelp directly and we manage the account without touching the money.

Centralized is how the partner program is designed to work. One invoice to one agency replaces a hundred separate accounts, and Yelp's sales and accounts receivable teams work with a single point of contact instead of managing each one individually. That efficiency is part of what the partner pricing and the client credits are paid for.

What it means in practice: your spend runs through us, changes go through us rather than through a toggle you click, and the account qualifies for pricing and promotions a self-serve advertiser cannot get.

We can manage a decentralized account in some circumstances, usually where a business has a billing structure that will not accommodate it. Ask. But a decentralized account sits outside the partner program's pricing, and the promotional rates, ad credits, and bundled offers that come with it are not available on spend we do not bill.

Should I buy Yelp Ads from a sales call?

Not on the call itself. Yelp's sales team works to a quota and the offer will still be there tomorrow. Ask for the terms in writing, check the cancellation clause, and confirm the budget against what a lead in your category is worth. If you already work with a partner, the call routes to them instead.

Can a certified partner get a bad review removed?

No. Certification gives a partner an escalation path, not editorial control. A review comes down only if it breaks Yelp's content guidelines, and that call is Yelp's. Any agency promising review removal is either misreading the program or lying about it, and paying for ads does not change what the filter does either. What we can do is tell you whether a review is worth flagging and on what grounds, and how to respond in public so the next reader sees a business that handles problems well. Fifteen years of doing this is mostly knowing which fights are worth having.

Who owns the account if we stop working together?

You do, in every case. The Yelp account is yours, the ad spend is billed by Yelp to you directly, and the profile work stays in place. If we part ways we hand back access and the reporting history, and you keep running it or move it to someone else.

Send us the business and the market, and we will tell you what a partner-managed account would actually do for it.

Every proposal starts with an evaluation of the account: whether the category, the market and the review position can carry paid placement, and whether any new-advertiser credit is still available to you. A proposal comes back with a recommended budget, the fee, and the numbers we would hold ourselves to. If Yelp is not the right place for your budget, we will say so in the same reply.
